Mathemagic
Written by Lance Smith
Mathemagic is Evan and Dylan Euteneier from Guelph/Toronto, Ontario Canada. They have recently gained attention from Pitchfork, Stereogum and The Fader for the release of "High" and "Breastroke", though the two have been releasing material for the past few months. On early evidence, Canadian duo Mathemagic seem to be working in a hazy but delicate nu-gaze vein, favoring shimmering drones and layered voices heavy on the reverb.
Evan Euteneier’s wispy, sighing vocal lines still buffered along ecstatically by syrupy, sticky key flickers. There’s a brilliant queasiness to this stuff that is less than leisurely – the synth washes are migraine pangs – pallid and wonky and drum snaps delve deeper, bursting the fug as thoughts of Monday responsibility flashing ugly through weekend stupour.
Both Evan and Dylan are intending to release a 5 song EP in "the next couple of weeks" according to their Myspace. Expect great things out of these two Canadian youngsters.
Below are two tracks from the upcoming Mathemagic EP, which will be self released.
